Kleine Enttäuschung - Friedkin schreibt zwar beinahe so unterhaltsam, wie er spricht, oft sogar mit erstaunlicher Bescheidenheit und Selbstkritik, elaboriert aber besonders ausführlich über FRENCH CONNECTION und THE EXORCIST. Die Ankedoten sind natürlich nach wie vor erstklassig, aber wer sich schon mal ein wenig mit Billy beschäftigt hat, kennt sie eben alle schon. Privates wird fast völlig ausgeklammert, nur seine Liebe zu Ehefrau Sherry Lansing angerissen; nichts über seine anderen Ehen, seine Zeit in Frankreich oder Jeanne Moreau im Speziellen. Spätere Filme werden pflichtschuldig durchgehechelt (nur SORCERER, Friedkins FITZCARRALDO, erhält noch die verdiente Aufmerksamkeit), aus nicht ersichtlichen Gründen fallen dabei DEAL OF THE CENTURY und THE GUARDIAN komplett unter den Tisch. Das Buch ist durchgängig spannend und interessant (auch Friedkins Anfänge im Dokumentarfilmbereich), aber ein bißchen mehr hätte man schon gern noch erfahren, oder zumindest eine etwas ausgeglichenere Gewichtung gesehen.
