It's got quite a bit of black and white but plenty of colour. And if you have the later volume called Oils also offered by Ron Ranson and Trevor Chamberlain, then you will miss nothing and appreciate the added detail of this earlier book as well. I am still counting my blessings that Mr. Chamberlain's book was on the shelf at our library, If it had not been, I might have missed out completely. What a marvelously talented plein air artist and most importantly, inspiring!
i'd recommend this to anyone new to plein air and/or oil painting. basic basics without complications by a couple of english guys who are both excellent artists. not the overly academic stuff you get in so many art instruction books. no complicated color theories and rules. you want to paint? go paint. this book is probably of value to anyone at any skill level.
I love this book. Great paintings, though some are in black and white but still they teach the very profound idea of paintings in tonality.
I love this book, if not only for the inspiration of Trevor Chamberlain's painting- mostly done on a small scale, but also for the four seasons of painting and the tips and simplicity it shows. I like the british artist's Chamberlain and Battershill both. this was the first book which really made me want to accomplish painting in Plein air
Love this book - have had it for years. Trevor Chamerlan is an honored British painter. His work is inspiring.
